PEMBUATAN DAN UJI AKTIVITAS SEDIAAN BODY LOTION EKSTRAK DAUN KEMANGI (Ocimum basilicum L.) TERHADAP BAKTERI Staphylococcus epidermidis

Abstract

A study was conducted on the formulation of a body lotion using basil leaf extract (Ocimum basilicum L) against Staphylococcus epidermidis. The body lotion was prepared in three extract concentrations: 5% w/w, 10% w/w, and 15% w/w. Evaluation was carried out through organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, and antibacterial activity using the well diffusion method. The results showed that all formulations were physically stable and met the requirements for topical preparations. The pH values ranged from 6.5 to 7.5 and the spreadability ranged from 6.1 to

6.7 cm. The antibacterial test showed inhibition zones with diameters of 13.78 mm (5% w/w), 14.48 mm (10%w/w), and 14.69 mm (15% w/w). These findings indicate that the higher the concentration of the extract, the greater the antibacterial effect. Therefore, basil leaf extract has potential as a natural antibacterial agent in body lotion formulations against Staphylococcus epidermidis.
