Abstract

Hand sanitizer gel is an antiseptic product to prevent and kill microorganisms on the palm of the hand. Natural ingredients can also be used as antibacterial substances and are considered safer than chemicals because natural ingredients have smaller side effects. In addition, natural ingredients are very easy to obtain by the community to be used as an alternative to antibacterial substances in reducing bacterial infections on the skin. One of them is Chinese bidara fruit (Zizipus jujuba). This study aims to determine the effectiveness of hand sanitizer gel ethanol extract of Chinese bidara fruit (Zizipus Jujuba) against the growth of Escherichia coli In this study, a hand sanitizer gel formula was made with a concentration ratio of bidara fruit extract 2.5, 3, and 3.5%. Antimicrobial activity was tested using the disc diffusion method. The results obtained show that the ethanol extract gel of Chinese bidara fruit (Zizipus jujuba) can inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli with a strong effectiveness of 19.6 mm at an extract concentration of 3.5%.
