Abstract

This study aimed to determine the antihyperuricemic effect of ethanol extract of surian bark (Toona sinensis) on male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced with potassium oxonate. An experimental study with a completely randomized design was conducted using 15 male rats divided into five groups: negative control (1% Na-CMC), extract-treated groups at doses of 40, 80, and 120 mg/kg body weight, and a positive control group (allopurinol). Hyperuricemia was induced by potassium oxonate at a dose of 300 mg/kg body weight. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, homogeneity test, One-Way ANOVA, and Tukey HSD post hoc test. The results showed that the ethanol extract of surian bark reduced uric acid levels in hyperuricemic rats, with percentage reductions at the 6th hour of 38.51%, 42.64%, and 54.72% for doses of 40, 80, and 120 mg/kg body weight, respectively, while allopurinol showed a reduction of 67.32%. One-Way ANOVA indicated a significant difference among treatment groups (p < 0.05). The dose of 120 mg/kg body weight exhibited the best antihyperuricemic activity among the extract-treated groups
